‘The Phantom Menace’ Returns to Theatres This May!

Every saga has a beginning…

And that beginning is coming back to the big screen! As first revealed by Empire Magazine, Lucasfilm announced today that Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace is getting a theatrical release this May to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The re-released film will return to theaters on May 3rd, 2024.

A new poster by artist Matt Furguson was also revealed, which you can see below,

The announcement came as part of Empire Magazine’s celebration of the prequel trilogy, which graces the cover of the magazine’s upcoming February issue. The issue will also feature new images of cast members Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiramid, as well as new interviews with Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Blessed, Rick McCallum, Doug Chiang, and Nick Gillard, as well as Christensen and McDiamid.

This is the second time The Phantom Menace has been released in theaters. The last time was in 2012 when the film received a 3D re-release, when it grossed $102 million. It was meant to kick off a series of re-releases of the saga in 3D (the subsequent re-releases were cancelled following the announcement of the sequel trilogy. No word yet on whether this new re-release will also include the 3D conversion.
