‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Movie Announced!
A new Star Wars movie is in the works!
StarWars.com announced today that The Mandalorian and Grogu is going into production later this year. The film will be directed by Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian series for Disney+, and produced by Favreau along with Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni. No release date has been set.
The film is separate from the film Filoni is directing that was announced at Star Wars Celebration last year and has been billed as the conclusion to the stories began in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka on Disney+. Film from James Mangold, which tells the stories of the orgins of the Jedi, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinnor, which brings back Rey post-The Rise of Skywalker as she relaunches the Jedi order, are also in development.
Although his Star Wars work has been focused mainly on the small screen, Favreau has achieved much acclaim as a film director. His 2003 film Elf is a modern holiday classic, and he kick started the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 when he directed Iron Man. His other directing credits include Chef (2013), The Jungle Book (2016), and The Lion King (2019).
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau told StarWars.com. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
No release date has been set as of yet for The Mandalorian and Grogu.
